Honkyuichi Hamono is a blacksmithing workshop founded in 1895 (Meiji 28) and descended from "Kyuichi", a swordsmith that flourished in the Edo period in the Hizen Shimabara domain, now located in Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture. The swordsmithing techniques from the Edo period are now carried on by the fourth and fifth generation, who hand-forge a wide variety of kitchen knives, sickles, hoes, etc. In addition, the knives are hardened with Shimabara water, which has been selected as one of the 100 famous waters of Japan. The sharp, durable knives hand-forged in this tradition are loved by many people.
The core material used is Yasugi steel Aogami No. 2, which has a high hardness. The sharp cutting edge will last a long time.
The handle is made of durable chestnut wood.
