Item Description:

This is an antique Chinese carved wooden panel, likely the lid of a box or drawer front, dating from the early to mid-20th century (circa 1930s–1950s). The panel features hand-carved figures in traditional Chinese dress, framed by decorative elements and stylized plants. The craftsmanship suggests it was made during the Republican period or early post-war years, possibly for the export market.

The carving is done in relief on a dark-stained background with lighter wood figures, giving it striking visual contrast. The reverse side shows signs of prior mounting, supporting the idea it once served as a lid or decorative panel on a wooden chest or cabinet.
