Vintage Stratton
London Enameled Flapjack Convertible Powder Compact w/Box EXTRAS!
Description: Offered here is a beautiful vintage
Stratton of London powder compact. I will be listing many vintage compacts over
the next few weeks, so please check my listings regularly to see if there is
something found on your ‘wish list.’ Plus, each auction will begin at $25.00-$30.00 –
regardless of a higher actual value! I’ve
relied on Laura M. Miller’s delightful book “Compacts, Carryalls & Face
Powder Boxes” for researching these compacts, and may toss in some of her
observations along the way.
This gorgeous compact comes in the original box
and includes the compact’s light blue ,envelope-style cloth protector with
“Stratton” stamped in gold on the front. The compact is an enameled flapjack
powder compact with a pastoral scene of roses and a butterfly on front bordered
by gold metal. The reverse is honeycomb designed gold metal with the stamp:
Stratton / England. A push tab opening at front opens to a framed mirror and a
reservoir for either loose or pressed powder. A small card is included with
instructions how to use the combination feature (also in French). Additionally,
there is a small white plastic ‘scoop’ for the powder option. The off-white
puff is stamped ‘Stratton.” The box is a green-gray color with “Stratton of
London” at the lower right corner. This is a very fine example from Stratton of
London, and would be a conversation piece of to any collection.
Approximate Measurements: 3 inches in diameter; 1/2 inch tall. Box measures 3-1/2 inches by
3-1/2 inches by 3/4 inch.
Condition Report: Excellent to fine condition with some powder on the protective case
and mirror. Box shows some wear at the corners.
The photos, scans and/or video are crucial elements of the description and are to be considered just as important as the description. I ask that you study them closely. The photos shown are of the actual item – some views have been taken with a flash camera. Review them carefully, as you may notice a flaw I missed. I cannot stress this enough: If you have any questions regarding the condition of an item, need additional photos, exacting measurements, or anything else, PLEASE message me! I will be happy to accommodate you.
Be aware that most of the items I offer are
antique or vintage – they may have been pre-owned and used. As a result, they could
have flaws commensurate with age and use, and are sold as-is without the stand
or other device (unless noted). Unless stated in the description or condition
report, these may not be immediately noticeable. If you expect a new,
pristine-condition item ― please think carefully before you bid. I must
stress this as some bidders have expected immaculate items with no signs of
previous use. If you are not accustomed to antique or vintage items, please ask
questions before bidding.
