Christoph Cellarius (1638 – 1707) was a German classical scholar.
His unlatinized name was Christoph Martin Keller. In 1694 Cellarius was
appointed professor of Rhetoric and History at the Friedrich University
of Halle. He became dean of the first German Faculty of Philology in
1697. In 1702 he wrote his important book Historia Universalis, in which
for the first time the entire history of Europe was classified into
three periods: ancient history, medieval history, and modern history.
