VO-1 is an innovative effect that adds the expressive power of human voice to guitar playing. Vocoder is a technology generally used in synthesizers, which allows you to create a sound that sounds as if a person is singing by applying the character of a human voice to a synth sound. This sound can now be heard not only in club music but also in many rock and pop music. With the VO-1, you can obtain this type of sound called electric voice with the same simple operation as a conventional compact pedal. By connecting a microphone and guitar to the VO-1, you can literally make your guitar sing.

Lyrics are an expressive power that only the human voice has and no other instrument has. Even without lyrics with clear meaning, the expressive possibilities are greatly increased by simply adding a change in the character of the voice. The vocoder is one of the common technologies that gives instruments the expressive power of the voice, but traditionally it was a technology that could only be used with synthesizers. The VO-1 is a unique effector that can express traditional vocoder sounds on guitar and bass. This allows any performance using various techniques to gain even greater expressiveness through the expressive power of the human voice.

■Vocoder for guitar and bass

The VO-1 has four vocoder modes. VINTAGE mode is a standard vocoder sound that is familiar from many historical masterpieces. It can be used with any electric guitar or bass, just like a vocoder. ADVANCED mode is an unprecedented high-resolution vocoder that clearly reflects the player's lyrics. TALK BOX mode reproduces the talking modulator sound. You can get the talking modulator sound just by connecting a microphone to the microphone input and playing the guitar or bass while speaking without having to hold a vinyl hose. In addition, CHOIR mode realizes a vocoder sound that automatically adds the character of a human voice even without connecting a microphone.

■An effector with infinite possibilities

Conventional vocoders create sounds from instruments and voices, so the performance could not be performed unless both performances were perfectly synchronized. In the three modes of VO-1, VINTAGE, ADVANCED, and TALK BOX, you can mix the guitar/bass tones with the BLEND knob, making it possible to play with a feeling similar to that of a normal instrument. In addition, in CHOIR mode, no microphone input is required. You can intuitively control the character of the voice with just the knob operation. In addition, you can mix the guitar/bass sound you created using the effect loop with the vocoder sound to achieve a wider range of sound making.
