Racers” Vol. 74 features the Yamaha YZR250 that ran in the World GP 250cc class in 2000. GP250 has been held as the middle class of the World GP. Although the class has now been renamed the “Moto2 class,” the machines used in the former are completely different from those in the latter. The former GP250 was contested by machines equipped with 2-stroke V-twin 250cc engines, with manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha, and Italy's Aprilia putting their factory prestige on the line. Today, Moto2 is a one-make race with a British Triumph 4-stroke 765cc engine. In the history of the battle between factory machines and factory riders, we will take a closer look at the “two YZR250s” that competed in the last fierce battle of the 20th century. The two riders who fought for the championship on these two YZR250s were teammates Olivier Jacque and Shinya Nakano. Although their YZR250s looked the same, their specifications and settings were quite different. This feature goes behind the scenes of the '00 GP250 Yamaha factory.
