Description
This is
a lap steel guitar with a Korina wood body and a single pickup. According to
the documentation, production began in 1956 and ended in 1968. It is made from
the same material used in 1950s Flying V and Explorer models, making it a rare
model with valuable wood.
The
tuners are original 1-line Kluson types, which have a slightly stiff torque,
but tuning is not a problem. The pickup is a Melody Maker-type slightly wider
single-coil, which produces a clean tone lighter than a P-90, but with a solid,
clear sound.
It has 1
volume and 1 tone knob, and both work without any crackling, so it can be used
as is. The metal parts are nickel-plated and show significant tarnish. I've
tried cleaning it with metal polish, but the tarnish remains, though with more
effort, it could likely improve further.
Due to
the lightweight Korina wood and single-coil pickup, it produces a bright tone
with good sustain, and the pickup output is strong enough for a good,
sustaining sound when overdriven.
Among
the relatively sweet and thick tones of Gibson lap steels, this one stands out
with a bright, clear, and open sound. It comes with an old, original-sized hard
case.
