The teaching Buddha holds his hands in vitarka mudra, the gesture of instruction or teaching.
The thumb and forefinger form the wheel of the gauge while the other fingers point upwards. This is the mystical gesture of the Taras and Bodhisattvas. It is the attitude of teaching and explaining.

The foot position represents the Vajsrana, which is also called diamond pose.
