When you turn up the thermostat to initiate your furnace, you might notice a clicking sound before the warm air arrives. That noise comes from the furnace ignitor. A spark electrode in HVAC is a component within a gas furnace or boiler that generates a spark to ignite the fuel (gas), essentially acting as the ignition source for the combustion process; it's a metal rod that creates a small gap to produce a spark when a high voltage is applied, allowing the gas to ignite and create a flame.
