1878-S 7 Tail feathers (reverse of '78) Morgan dollar authenticated / graded / encapsulated by NGC as Almost Uncirculated, AU-55.  We offer a more economical choice for a prooflike coin, as in the AU grades they are not designated PL or DMPL; but a close look at its mirrored sides will show that, indeed, this coin was struck from "basined" dies and still acts like a mirror; indeed, before it experienced light wear from circulating, it was "prooflike."

NGC has graded this AU-55, and it represents this well, with a brilliant lustre for the grade.  This early San Francisco series included changes and varieties of the reverse; this one has seven tail feathers that the series would have in common, and a concave eagle chest to denote its "Reverse of 1878."
