Walking Thunder lives at Two Gray Hills, New Mexico and she has written the explanation of the painting on the back of the picture, as well as signing it. A quick description of this picture is: "Talking God Creation Of Beauty, Pottery Creation mark of Beauty--How you interpret the design of healing" She does not mass-produce her paintings for curio shops and galleries, and therefore her work is a lot more intricate than most found. "This 12 inch by 12 inch authentic Navajo sandpainting is called "Talking God Creation of Beauty." It was created by accomplished medicine woman and sand artist Walking Thunder. The back is signed by the artisan with a description of the meaning of this sandpainting. This sandpainting is new but does have slight nicks in the bottom right corner and top right side. "ABOUT THE ARTISAN:Walking Thunder (Juanita Peters) is a Dine' Medicine Woman. She has dedicated her life to learning and teaching the wisdom of the Dine' people, as well as healing in the ancient traditions of her people. She is known as a powerful healer, an accomplished sandpainter, and an inpirational teacher. She studied with her elders since her childhood and has an intense connection to Mother Earth.ABOUT SANDPAINTINGS:Sandpaintings originate from Navajo healing ceremonies. The medicine man/woman builds a sandpainting and places the patient in the middle of it. To aid in the healing process, sand from the sandpainting is rubbed over certain parts of the patient's body. When the ceremony is over, the sandpainting is destroyed, thereby destroying the illness.Sandpaintings are very detailed and colorful and each figure carries a special meaning. The designs are made up of many subjects familiar to the Navajo people. Colors used in the sandpaintings contain every color of the rainbow and are made from many different sources such as colored rocks, roots, flowers, sand, bark, ashes, cactus. The amazing detailed and complex Navajo symbol of healing has been broadened into a unique art form to be appreciated by many. She,also has a book of her life, "Walking Thunder: Dine Medicine Woman". She has never sold her art on her web site as she can make only a few at a time so they are not easy to find. The picture is 12” square and ready to be framed. There are 2 places that are rubbed off along the edges which will totally be covered by a frame. This is not unusual.
