Pair PM Craftsman MAN At GLOBE Bookends Brass Finish ca 1960
An interesting set of bookends of a man, perhaps a cartographer. at a globe and sitting on a pile of books. These were made by PM Craftsman around 1965. This set is listed in Kuritzky and De Costa's Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends (2006) on p. 229 (plate 1547), where the authors title the set "Man at Globe," give it a rarity value of 4 (uncommon). This set originally would have had the maker's labels on the bottoms, but they are now missing.
MATERIAL: Listed as gray metal with a brass finish in the Kuritzky and De Costa Encyclopedia of Bookends. A magnet does not stick.
CONDITION: Good Condition. There are a few light wear spots. No dents, chips, breakage, or repairs. The bookends sit stably. The felts on the bottoms could be original.
DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT: Each bookend is 5" tall, 4.75" wide, and 3" deep at the base. The bookends, as a set, weigh over 7 pounds.
