**Description**

The Savanna, released in Japan in 1971 as a vehicle exclusively featuring the rotary engine (RE), is known as the RX-3 in Hot Wheels product names, which refers to the export version. However, the first-generation Savanna is often referred to as the RX-3 in Japan as well. Unlike conventional reciprocating engines that generate power through the up-and-down motion of pistons, the RE produces power through the rotational motion of uniquely shaped pistons called rotors, which leads to a driving feel often likened to that of a motor. Although there are currently no commercially available vehicles equipped with RE, Mazda is the only manufacturer that fully commercialized and made it practical, making it a car that many enthusiasts consider part of Mazda's identity. Hot Wheels has designed a tall, deformed version inspired by the race-spec RX-3 while taking hints from the Japanese deformed plastic models that were popular in the 1980s.
