DIMENSIONS:
15" tall x 5 wide x 3 1/2".
Weight: 1 lb., 11 ounces.
DESCRIPTION:
Antique woodcarving of the Madonna of Nuremberg, after the original German Renaissance masterpiece by Georg Herb (Meister Jörg Pildschnitzer) and Workshop, circa 1515.
Hand carved wood. Beautifully executed.
Maker's marks: none found. (There appears to be an old catalog or insurance number on bottom of the base.
Presumed 1st half 20th century. Probably Germany (Black Forest) or Switzerland (Brienz).
CONDITION:
There is subtle loss to the edge of the figure's right sleeve (see the edge of the lowest fold, below the elbow). This is generally not noticeable unless you carefully inspect the back side of this fold.
Other light typical handling wear: scattered small dings to the base; superficial rubs to the corners and edges of the base.
See photos for all of this. None of this is conspicuous.
Otherwise this carving is in excellent original condition with no other damage and no significant wear. No restorations / repairs / touch ups.
No other chips / losses. No breaks, splits, cracks. No dents or bruises. No significant scratches, rubs, dings.
I have lightly oiled the carving. Otherwise original patina as found. Clean. No grime. No stains or discolorations.
Displays well.
