Villemot (1911–1989) was one of the principal French poster artists of the postwar era. His style is recognized for reducing forms to bold lines and flat areas of color, creating images that were instantly recognizable. He worked extensively for Perrier, Orangina, and Bally, producing some of the most consistent and identifiable campaigns of the 1960s–1980s.

Perrier, the French mineral water brand, used poster advertising throughout the 20th century to strengthen its international identity. The company collaborated with major artists, and Villemot’s contributions are among the most notable. Le Couple Dansant is part of that campaign history and reflects the brand’s emphasis on modern, graphic imagery.
