To speak of the Amazon is to state superlatives. The immense river carries nearly one-fifth of all the planet's fresh water.  Ten of its 1000 tributaries are mightier than the Mississippi and its vast basin contains one-third of the world's forest.

For 18 months, the Cousteaus and crew pursue two expeditions, one tracing downriver 1700 miles from the Amazon's Andean Source, the other questing 2,300 miles upriver to a rendevous.  By raft and amphibious truck, hovercraft and helicopter, Cousteau's explorers investigate the Earth's greatest living laboratory - home to the astounding pink dolphin, huge water snakes, razor-jawed piranhas, exquisitely-hued birds and butterflies, giant rodents, jaguars, sloths and monkeys.

THE COUSTEAU VIDEO LIBRARY is the masterwork of premier explorer-environmentalist Jacques Cousteau, who with his son, Jean-Michel, examines the globe's great rivers, far promontories, remote islands and undersea worlds.
