■Supplemental product description
After a life of poor training in France at the age of 26, during which he burned his paintings to keep warm, he entered the glory days of the “Ecole de Paris” where his mysterious nudes with “milky white skin” were highly acclaimed.

On the other hand, Fujita's paintings did not receive the recognition they deserved in his native Japan, and he eventually became a naturalized French citizen and died in a foreign land.

This work reveals the art and life of a painter shrouded in a thick veil.

Tsuguharu Fujita (November 27, 1886 - January 29, 1968) was a Japanese-born French painter and sculptor.

His baptismal name after naturalization in France was Léonard Tsugouharu Foujita (also known as Léonard Fujita).

He was active in Paris, France from before World War I. His specialty was cats and women, and his unique “milky skin” nudes, while incorporating Japanese painting techniques into his oil paintings, were highly acclaimed by the Western art world.

He is a representative painter of the Ecole de Paris.
