This is a space shuttle set released by Technique in 1996.
It is one of the large box sets from Technique at the time.
The hatch in the centre of the space shuttle can be opened or closed.
Inside is a foldable artificial satellite, which has a gimmick that allows it to be released into space using an arm.
This set contains transparent parts that resemble optical fibre, which make the space shuttle's engines glow red.
The reassembled model is a submarine.
