Description
Original WW2 era American fighting knife manufactured by Kinfolks Cutlery in Little Valley, NY. This is an early production type with a solid aluminum pommel and fullered 5-inch blade, original pattern-embossed leather scabbard is included. As the war progressed, Kinfolks had to phase out the use of aluminum due to the wartime ban on the use of the strategic metals for the “non-essential” products. As soon as the “old stock” of aluminum parts was depleted Kinfolks had switched to Bakelite pommels on all of their WW2 knives. A similar Kinfolks mid-war manufacture type with than-standard Bakelite fittings is illustrated on page 166 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the page’s scan attached).
The knife is about 9-1/2″ / 24 cm overall; fullered blade is about 5″ /12.6 cm long; it is very sharp still; the tip is intact. Stacked leather washers handle with red and black fiber spacers on the ends; solid aluminum pommel with a large brass lug-nut. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play. Original Kinfolks leather scabbard is in very good overall condition, considering the age. All original rivets and keeper are intact; minor stitching damage near the tip is noted for accuracy; the leather is soft and supple. This scabbard is in better-than-average condition for the type; it’s in 100% serviceable condition still.
This WW2 era fighting knife has not been clean or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original "as-purchased" condition. These are the actual photos.
