You are considering a hardback book, with DJ:
COOK & PEARY: THE POLAR CONTROVERSY, RESOLVED by Robert M. Bryce; PUBLISHER: Stackpole Books; 1997, first printing, 1133 Pages.
Within days of each other, in September 1909, two Americans emerged from the Arctic's frozen wastes, each saying he had captured the long sought prize for which explorers had suffered and even died: the North Pole.
Frederick A. Cook's claim had priority--he said he had been at the Pole in April 1908 and had been forced by drifting ice and bad weather to winter in the Arctic another season. But his veractiy was immediately challenged by rival explorer Robert E. Peary and his well-heeled, well-connected backers.
Condition: DJ has light wear around the edges. No other known damage.
