For your consideration at this wonderful auction is a vintage and custom upgraded Apple AppleCD 300 24x External SCSI CD-ROM drive, model M0322 and M3023 and M2710LL/A. Drive enclosure is in either the 150 or 300 series metal boxes, which are identical to each other. Drive is perfect solution for booting Apple system restore discs on various systems. Maximum available speed is 24x (the highest speed offered to Apple OEM specifications from 1997), but the maximum supported speed is contingent on the CD-ROM disc media being inserted into the drive. The drive module/mechanism on the inside of the enclosure is a Matsushita drive, which this is an official Apple OEM part from Panasonic on some of their Power Macintosh 6500 series and 8600/9600 series towers. Connections on the back include 2 SCSI 50-pin ports, stereo audio line-out connections, and a SCSI ID selector (it is 3 by default). This is the model that has a tray mechanism built-in, no need to use a CD-ROM caddy cassette. These are compatible with Performa, Quadra, Color Classic, Centris, and Power Mac systems. A SCSI port is required,and System 7.5.5 or newer to be already installed on a supported Mac. System 7.5.x, Mac OS 7.6.x, 8.1, 8.6, 9.1 and 9.2.2 are supported and required. Drive enclosure includes a SCSI 25-pin to 50-pin cable, SCSI terminator, standard power cable. If the computer does not already have an operating system installed when this external drive is connected, the machine may display either a sad Mac or specific error message because the System Folder is not present and is essentially required - simply reset the PRAM when this happens.
