Village Scandal

or the

Gossip's Tale,

A Picture of Real Life

By

Hannah Maria Jones

Publisher: William Emans, 1835, first edition. 21.5cm, 8.5 inches, tall, 713 pages, bound in half red leather over marbled boards. Good condition, boards rubbed and bumped, marks throughout.  Illustrated with 7 engraved plates, lacking the frontispiece and the front free endpaper. Plates foxed. A rare book. Hannah Maria Jones wrote 23 of novels, but may not have been very well paid for them. She lived a difficult life, her husband being an invalid, and her second relationship being outside marriage, though she did take his name. Perhaps her own life is reflected in her works.
