This book, a significant contribution to the study of Irish land purchase, focuses on the legal and procedural changes brought about by the 1903 Irish Land Act. The act made several important alterations to earlier land purchase legislation, creating provisions for tenant and vendor alike, including a sliding scale of ‘bonus’ payments and protection of the tenant's right to possession. The act also altered the role of the Land Commission, giving various powers to its three new members, the Estates Commissioners. The 1903 act, along with further amending acts discussed within, was instrumental in facilitating land purchase up to and through the 1911 amending act.
