"Joseph and His Friend: A Story of Pennsylvania" is a novel written by Bayard Taylor, published in 1870. It's one of the earliest American novels with a homosexual theme, exploring the deep friendship between two men, Joseph Atherley and Roger Bascombe, in rural Pennsylvania during the mid-19th century. The book is significant for its portrayal of same-sex relationships within the constraints of its historical context.
