This is a rare May 20th, 1912 program (playbill) from the one-night performance of the DICKENS RECITAL by Mr. FRANK SPEAIGHT at the First Baptist Church in Madison, Wisconsin ..... Mr. FRANK SPEAIGHT, one of England's greatest interpreters of Dickens, will appear here on May 20th, 1912. Mr. Speaight is not only a reciter, but an accomplished actor, and controls his audience entirely through his facial expressions and actions as he uses no accessories or scenery of any kind. He has abridged the works of Dickens so that several stories or selections may be told in one evening, and he will use these abridged versions in his recital here. The evening included the scenes "David Copperfield takes Tea with Uriah Heep and his Mother and meets Mr. Micawber", "Pickwickian Adventures at Bath" and "Grandfather Smallweed". Mr. Speaight was supported by Mr. E. W. SUNDELL as "Uriah Heep", Mr. A. J. HUNTER as "Mr. Pickwick" and Mr. A. L. Brabrook as "Mr. Micawber". The soloists included Mr. ALLAN M. WEARY (Violin), Mrs. MARJORIE DODGE WARNER (Vocal Solo) and Mrs. FLORENCE CRIBBEN HENEAGE (Reading: "A Dickens Dream") with Mrs. HELEN WORSWICK ROSS at the piano ..... DETAILS: The four page program measures 4 1/4" X 7 3/4" inches, is printed on a textured stock and includes the list of participants, a brief synopsis of the scenes and a list of the ushers ..... CONDITION: With the exception of minor creasing to the top right corner, this rare program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
