  • The watch was developed in 1967 by Mikhail Fedorovich Novikov and Vera Fedorovna Belova. The name was chosen in honor of the amphibian - a creature that feels comfortable both in water and on land. By order of the USSR Navy, in 1967, the Vostok plant began producing the NVCh-30 diving wristwatch; this modification of the Amphibia watch allowed it to operate normally when diving to a depth of 300 meters; the watch was successfully tested during fleet exercises in the North Sea. In 1975, the watch was used during space flights
