This is a stunning original antique wood engraved print published in Ballou's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion (1856). This view of the US Capitol Building was a projection of how it would appear once its' new dome and two extensions were finished. Started in 1851, it wasn't completed until after the Civil War in 1868.

A beautiful detailed double-page print measuring 13 1/2" x 21" with wide margins, perfect for framing. The paper is supple, almost imperceptible 3 tiny binding holes along the centerfold, very light toning....simply a remarkable testament to the quality of paper used by Ballou's. Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion was a 19th-century illustrated periodical published in Boston, Massachusetts. The magazine was founded by Frederick Gleason in 1851. It became Ballou's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion in 1855, after managing editor Maturin Murray Ballou bought out the interest of Gleason. The magazine absorbed the Illustrated News of New York in 1853. Many aspiring American artists, such as Winslow Homer, began as illustrators for the newspaper.
