Proposed first as an 8 v. edition, then as 10 v. Vol. 10 ("Glossarial index, with notes and illustrations on every word, person and thing, in the entire works")--never published.
Also issued in large paper and in "Spenser Society" quarto issues, which are specially illustrated.

Our copies complete in Nine Vols [the tenth vol never published]. Vols 2-8 with two title pages in B/W [not in red and black] One stating in Ten vol the other t.p stating eight vol. Our copies possibly with cancel title pages, re-issuing with the original intended titles?.

Condition: See photos as part of condition report: Full nine vol set. Uniformly bound in quarter calf [modern]. All bindings holding firm, the bindings generally in a very good condition, with a small amount of shelf wear. Bound with modern red/brown endpapers and pastedowns. Text blocks firm, Foxing to the half titles and the verso of the last leafs. Volumes 2-8 bound with two titles pages, one stating in 10 vol and the other in 8 [as issued?] Light foxing to the title pages, occasional spotting and foxing to the text.
