This is a rare December 25th, 1906 program (playbill) from the four-week, Post-Broadway engagement of the Jefferson De Angelis Opera Company's production of the SAM S. SHUBERT, ROBERT B. SMITH and RAYMOND HUBBELL Japanese-American Musical Comedy "FANTANA" at the Boston Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The Original Broadway production opened January 14th, 1905 at the Lyric Theatre in New York City and played 298 performances before going on the road.) ..... The musical starred JEFFERSON DE ANGELIS and the cast included HUBERT WILKE, FRANK RUSHWORTH, OSBORNE SEARLE, WILLIAM BLAISDELL, PHILIP LEIGH, ROBERT BRODERICK, JULIA SANDERSON, TOBY CLAUDE, GERTRUDE MILLINGTON, NORMA BELL, ADELAIDE SHARP, ANNA WILSON, JEAN CALDUCCI, CATHERINE COOPER, HAZEL TEMPLE, OLIVE QUINBY and ADELAIDE SHARP ..... DETAILS: The 32 page playbill measures 5 1/4" X 7 3/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers, schedule of upcoming attractions and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios ..... Side note: One of the co-authors was the late SAM S. SHUBERT, who on May 12th, 1905 was traveling to Kansas City to close the contract on the Shubert's new theatre, when the passenger train he was on collided with several freight cars in the Lochiel neighborhood of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Severely injured in the train wreck, Sam Shubert succumbed to his injuries the next day at the age of 27 ..... CONDITION: With the exception of tiny rust marks on the front cover and light edge wear, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
