Antimicrobial alginate dressing for moderately to heavily exuding wounds

Melgisorb® Ag is an antimicrobial alginate dressing for situations where an antimicrobial action is necessary to reduce bacterial load.

An international consensus document states that antimicrobial action is indicated to help reduce the microbial load in infected wounds. Furthermore, it acts as an antimicrobial barrier in wounds at high risk of infection or reinfection. Melgisorb Ag has been shown to inactivate wound pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) within four hours and up to 14 days, as demonstrated by in vitro testing.

Melgisorb® Ag can handle high volumes of exudate. Alginate fibers absorb large amounts of exudate, forming a soft gel, which in turn creates a moist environment and promotes wound healing.

When to use Melgisorb® Ag

Melgisorb® Ag is indicated for the management of all moderately to heavily exuding partial- or full-thickness wounds, including post-operative wounds, traumatic wounds, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, implant sites and transplant donors, cavity lesions, superficial burns and partial thickness burns. Because it contains alginate, Melgisorb Ag can help control minor bleeding in superficial wounds. This product can also be used under compression bandages. Melgisorb Ag can be used in the management of infected wounds or wounds presenting an increased risk of infection, always under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Melgisorb Ag is indicated exclusively for external use.
