>Offered here for your consideration is an old and original 1976 2nd Annual PRE'S TRAIL RUN participant's t-shirt, featuring the late, great distance runner Steve Prefontaine!! Please see all five photos, as they are an important part of my description as is my full text and "history" below. This vintage road run t-shirt is a size "small" (34-36), and consider the shirt to be unisex; measurements are 25" long (measured from back of neckline to bottom hem) by 16" wide (measured armpit-to-armpit). This uber-rare vintage tee was produced by Collegiate Pacific (see label), is 100% cotton and was made in the U.S.A. This 2nd Annual "Pre's Trail Run" shirt features outstanding artwork (I believe based on a real photograph) of Steve Prefontaine competing and wearing a runner's race bib. Highly collectible vintage t-shirt!! Please continue to read about the run's history below....
<>History: Pre's Trail Run began in September of 1975 here in Eugene, Oregon where Steve Prefontaine competed for the University of Oregon Ducks, running at Hayward Field. The race's early years did not have thousands of runners; hundreds did participate and the run's t-shirts were mostly "worn to death" before they could no longer be worn! The "trail" was constructed during the summer of 1975 at Alton Baker Park here in town. After Pre's untimely death in May of that year, Eugene's running community came together to realize Steve's dream: Pre had visited many such facilities while traveling in Europe and began, along with others, to plan for the actual construction of this soft bark running trail. Pre worked hard on this dream; after his death in May, 1975, his dream was continued to fruition with a strong community effort with the successful construction of what is now memorialized as Pre's Trail. The trail included distance markers and exercise stations along the trail - just as Prefontaine had envisioned like the trails he visited in Europe.
