Authentic Connie Mack Stadium/Shibe Park seat, red, good to very good condition. I was 22 years old in 1970, a life-long Phillies fan and living in Philadelphia. I went to Connie Mack Stadium on October 1, 1970, the last game to be played at the 61-year-old stadium, as the new Phillies home, Veterans Stadium, was already under construction. I had a friend with me, and we were prepared—with a ratchet set—to take a couple of stadium seats home with us as mementos.
We enjoyed a close game vs the Montreal Expos, which the Phils won in ten innings in walk-off fashion, 2-1. But as the players walked off (ran off) the field, crowds of people came onto the field, some already carrying rows of seats, and other mementos of the stadium. Meanwhile, we were busy disconnecting two-seat sections that we each sat in, on the lower right field level beyond first base. These seats were originally a pnkish/beige color for that section of the stadium; they were not the red box seats which were slightly different with more ornate armrests. The two seaters each weighed about 45 lbs. We hauled them several blocks to my friend's old Mustang and off we went.
My two-seat pair was not in great condition as a few of the wood slats were kind of decrepit, but I was able to combine them into one perfect seat. I then painted it red, to mimic the red box seats that my father and I sat in at the many games he took me to in the 50s and 60s. I realize that this devalued the seat(s) from being in an unrestored state, but I wanted a nice seat to display at home. I added a couple of wood supports to the base (these would be removed upon shipping, but could easily be reattached if desired) to keep the seat more stable, even though it was hardly ever sat in all these years. The seat does sway side to side by one and a half inches (mainly as it no longer has the support of other attached seat). But it is sturdy, and the seat up-and-down mechanism works flawlessly. All parts are original, including the nuts and bolts and mechanism parts.
I love this beautiful seat, but live in a small place with no room to accommodate it. As of 2026, the seat has been stored in an attic or garage for ten years.
Oh, the memories! Thank you for your interest. LET'S GO PHILLIES!!
