ANTIQUE AMERICAN HANGING WALL SHELF IN ORIGINAL 

GREEN PAINT WITH HAND FORGED HOOKS

Fabulous,  antique American folk art, New England primitive hanging wall shelf, early to mid 19th century, classic cut-out profile, hand forged ornate hooks. Original green alligatored paint with hints of red underneath with small square nails.

 This early wall shelf would've possibly held jars of valuable cooking spices, oils or matches on either of its two shelves. This early primitive wall shelf would've been nearly omnipresent features in early New England kitchens and pantries, providing quick and easy access to any number of needed kitchen and cooking accessories

Hooks were used for hanging game, or drying herbs. Perfect for displaying old bonnets, dried goods or other primitive needful.

CONDITION

In very good antique condition, experiences some discoloration and minor paint loss. The shelf itself is remarkably still intact, with only some rather minor rubs to its edges. There are no tears, noticeable dings or dents. No age cracks.

 

APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS

Top shelf measures 11” wide and 21” in length

Bottom shelf measures 5-3/4” and 18-1/2” in length

Bottom shelf measures 8” to top shelf

Top to bottom 13”.
