This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the Broadway revival of the NOEL COWARD series of plays, "TONIGHT AT EIGHT-THIRTY" at the National Theatre in New York City. (The Original Broadway production opened November 24th, 1936 at New York's National Theatre and ran for 118 performances. This revival opened February 20th, 1948 and ran for only 26 performances.) ..... A cycle of ten one-act plays by NOEL COWARD, the plays were performed in various combinations of three at each performance. The plays chosen were announced in advance and starred GERTRUDE LAWRENCE and featured GRAHAM PAYN, PHILIP TONGE, VALERIE COSSART, NORAH HOWARD, SARAH BURTON, BOOTH COLMAN, WILLIAM ROERICK and RHODERICK WALKER ..... DETAILS: Advertising handbills (heralds) were distributed or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows and events. This single page, two-sided handbill measures 5 3/4" X 9" inches and includes a beautiful rendering of GERTRUDE LAWRENCE painted by CECIL BEATON on the front and production credits, partial cast list, promotional text, performance schedule and ticket prices on the backside ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a moisture stain in the top right corner and moderate edge wear at both the top and bottom, this rare handbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
