Phenolic Sheet, Rod, and Tube

Phenolic is a strong, rigid, and heat-resistant thermoset plastic made by impregnating layers of fabric or paper with phenolic resin. It offers high mechanical strength, excellent dimensional stability, and outstanding electrical insulation properties. Common trade names include Micarta®, Bakelite®, and Garolite®.

Available Types

  • Canvas-Based Phenolic (C): Good mechanical strength; machinable; cost-effective
  • Linen-Based Phenolic (L): Fine weave for better finish; excellent for small, precise parts
  • Paper-Based Phenolic (P): Best electrical insulation; lower mechanical strength
  • Glass-Cloth-Based (G-10 / FR4): Superior strength, flame resistance, high-voltage insulation

Common Forms

  • Sheet: Thicknesses from 1/32" to 2" or more
  • Rod: Diameters from 1/4" to 4"+, lengths up to 48"
  • Tube: Various IDs/ODs from 1/2" to 8"+, often custom cut

Extensive Application List

  • Electrical insulation (terminal boards, arc barriers)
  • Tooling plates, jig components, and fixtures
  • Motor and generator end plates
  • Bearing retainers, thrust washers, and bushings
  • Control panels and switchgear barriers
  • Radio, microwave, and RF shielding structures
  • Gear blanks and pulleys (low-speed)
  • Vacuum table plates and router beds
  • Knife handles and firearm grips (linen/canvas grades)
  • Model engineering and R/C aircraft bases
  • Transformer insulation and structural supports
  • High-voltage coil supports
  • Elevator equipment insulation blocks
  • Flame-retardant enclosures (FR4 glass-reinforced grade)
  • Replacement parts for worn metal in non-lubricated settings

Key Benefits

  • Excellent electrical insulator (dry and humid conditions)
  • Strong, rigid, and machinable
  • Heat and arc resistant
  • Dimensionally stable under load
  • Noise and vibration dampening in mechanical assemblies
