About the artist:
Death NYC(1979) is a street artist from New Yorkwhere her fame is hitting new heights.
Initially, Death used to paint on walls and floorsof mainstream stores of the Soho and Chelseaquarter.
Her pseudonym is actually an acronym of "Don'tEasily Abandon The Hope", which is oftenmisleading for the public, especially when theartist writes her slogan "Death is free" in thestreets. In her work, Death mocks the media, bydistorting the images of the popular culture. One of her most famous works is Mao Zedong'srepresentation with a pink bow in his hair andpink lipstick.
Bursting with color and cultural references,Death NYC's work is hard to miss, whether onthe street or hanging from a gallery wall. DeathNYC intersperses images of famous figureslike Marilyn Monroe, Barack Obama, andMickey Mouse - with iconic motifs from arthistory, such as Andy Warhol's soup can andJeff Koons's balloon dog, to create collages thatpoke fun at pop culture idols and the media-fueled culture of idolization.
Death NYC prefers toremain anonymous to protect the freedom ofher street art practice.
