Crying Wind is my tribal name, I was adopted into the Kiowa tribe, I also write under the name April Knight. I spent many years working with the Navaho Indians in New Mexico and was given the CHIEF award.

I've been a published writer since I was thirteen years old. I believe having a miserable childhood and being bullied in school made me strong, made me a survivor and made me a writer and provided endless material for my books. The first book I wrote (Crying Wind) became a best seller, was translated into 15 languages and has been continuously in print for 35 years. I've written 50 books and over 1,000 short stories.--from her author page
