DESCRIPTION: The Educational Tours in New York City was compiled by The New York Convention and Visitors Bureau on East 42nd St., New York City, N.Y. The booklet provides a comprehensive list of nearly everything, from Department Stores (Abraham & Strauss, Bloomingdale’s, Gimbel Brothers, Inc., Lord & Taylor, Macy’s, and Stern Brothers) to Financial Institutions, such as the American Stock Exchange, Chase Manhattan Bank, the Federal Reserve.  There is also general interest sightseeing locations, such as Chrysler Corporation on Lexington Avenue, the Lionel Trains Showroom, the New York Daily News Lobby, the New York Naval Shipyard, U.S. Rubber Exhibit Hall, and the U.S. Weather Bureau.  There are historic houses (Bowne House, Dyckman House, Fraunces Tavern, Van Cortlandt House, and Theodore Roosevelt’s House.  The tour includes hospitals, industrial plants and business offices, union offices, and company headquarters. It shows the locations of various city museums (The Cloisters, Fire Department Museum, Frick Collection, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Hayden Planetarium, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. Finally, it ends with sites such as the Good Housekeeping Magazine base, City Hall, the New York Times, New York Public Library, NBC Building, and RCA Exhibition Hall. Final two pages include ship tours, sightseeing companies, ferry lines and services, location of the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, the UN Building, and more.
