The Meiji era was a time when old and new values intermingled and dynamic. Madame Sadayakko (Keiko Matsuzaka), a pioneer among Japanese actresses, opened her eyes through her overseas performances.
Kawakami Otojiro (Nakamura Masatoshi), who became the darling of the age with his "opekepee-busi" and devoted his life to the development of new theater.
Momosuke (Morio Kazama), who became the adopted son of Yukichi Fukuzawa, but refused to accept Yukichi's backing and single-handedly paved the way for his own business career.
Momosuke's wife Fusako (Fumi Dan), Yukichi's second daughter.
