In an effort to get youth reading more Bible scripture this little box of prayer books was created by the International Walther League to be given out at the 1953 Lutheran Youth Conference to commemorate their sixtieth anniversary. There are ten little books that have readings from the Bible and are filled with full page color and black & white illustrations, maps. Each has a decorative multi-colored cover with an image as described below:

James to Jude – Sheep in the Jordan Valley

The Gospel of St. Mark – The Sea of Galilee

I and II Corinthians – The Temple at Corinth

Revelation – Harbor of the Isle of Patmos

The Gospel of St. John – One of the Gates of Jerusalem

The Acts of the Apostles – Tombs at Jerusalem

Timothy to Hebrews – The Theatre at Ephesus

The Gospel of St. Luke – Nazareth

The Walther League was established in May 1893 in Buffalo, New York. Named in honor of Carl Ferdinand Wilhelm Walther (1811 – 1887), a founder of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod. The organization emphasized worship, education, service, recreation, and fellowship among young people of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod congregations.
