I have for sale a French plaquette that commemorates John Boyd Dunlop and his pneumatic tires. The plaquette is bronze, 2 3/8 by 2 inches and in circulated condition. This plaquette was done by Rene Baudichon. Dunlop was born in Scotland in 02/05/1840 and died in 10/23/1921. He was an inventor & veterinary surgeon and was known for the development of the pneumatic tire. In December 1888 he obtained a patent for his pneumatic tire which at a later date was revoked. The obverse at the top rim reads J.B. DUNLOP. In the scene it shows the bust of Dunlop along with a racing car, motorcycle, bicycle and biplane. Below the scene it reads 1888 40 ANNIVERSAIRE 1928 - DE LA FONDATION - DE L'INDUSTRIE DU PNEUMATIQUE. The reverse shows natives gathering rubber in the top scene. In the area below the scene, in French it reads something about the Dunlop Tire Co. factory and it does show a factory scene. Please see more in my EBAY STORE at TE Collectables. (18,152)
