This is an almost complete set that includes 21 of the 26 volumes published between 1895 and 1901. The volumes were published for subscribers over several years starting in 1895 and ending in 1901 after several extensions.

The ‘Thistle Edition’ in its various versions lacks a general title and is called the ‘Thistle Edition’ only in its prospectuses and announcements to subscribers. (The name is evoked, by thistle decorations on the cover). Each volume has a mid-level title that assigns it to a section of the whole edition: The Novels and Tales of Robert Louis Stevenson, The Travels and Essays of Robert Louis Stevenson etc.).
