Worn-out or broken idler gears are a common issue in vintage cassette players, causing playback issues. If your deck does not properly play or makes clicking, grinding noises with the tape skipping, the idler gear has cracked or has a few teeth missing, it is probably a good idea to replace it in order to get the deck operational again.

This is a brand new replacement gear, compatible with tape decks listed below. Please see attached image that shows how and where it is installed. There are a number of available tutorials also that may help you fixing a tape deck if this particular gear is broken..
