SMURFS jigsaw puzzle Peyo hang-gliding Nat & Sassette Smurfling 1987 Grandpa
This is a previously-owned “Smurfs” jigsaw-puzzle, manufactured by Milton Bradley in 1987 (catalog #4190-7). The 100-piece puzzle measures 11 inches by 16 inches upon completion and includes all pieces. It is in great shape, but the box shows a little wear – see picture…
This puzzle features Smurfette of The Smurfs, a fictional group of small sky blue creatures who live somewhere in the forests of Europe. The Belgian cartoonist Peyo introduced smurfs to the world, but Hanna-Barbera Productions popularized them through an American animated television series. Smurfette is the only female smurf (until the creation of Sassette). She has more delicate features than the other smurfs, with long blonde wavy hair, longer eyelashes, and wears a white dress and white high heels. She is the love interest of almost every smurf (eventually even Papa Smurf!). From a feminist perspective, Smurfette represents women in rigidly defined gender roles. While all the other smurfs are defined by their occupation or specialization, Smurfette’s role in society is defined only by her sex.
