The Baker Chocolate Company is the oldest producer of chocolate in the United States. The company was established when a physician named Dr. James Baker met John Hannon on the banks of the Neponset River, in DORCHESTER, Massachusettes. Baker's chocolate was becoming a staple of kitchen pantries everywhere. In 1852, Baker employee, Samuel German created a sweet chocolate that had a higher sugar content. The chocolate was given his name, German's Sweet Chocolate. The Chocolate Girl; or, The maid who became a princess The Chocolate Girl (known also as La Belle Chocolatière, or Das Schokoladenmädchen) is one of the most famous works by the Swiss artist, Jean-Etienne Liotard (1702-1789), and depicts a pretty maid serving a tray of hot chocolate and a glass of water.   *** BEING OFFERED IS THIS *** TRULY SPECTACULAR!!, *** XXX RARE!!, AND MUCH HARDER TO FIND!!, *** ANTIQUE SET OF SOLID AND HEAVY CAST IRON, *** WALTER BAKER CHOCOLATE COMPANY ( c.1862 ) "LA BELLE " CHOCOLATE MAID LADY WITH CUPS OF COCOA ON TRAY BOOKENDS", IN VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT AGED CONDITION ( PLEASE VIEW MY PHOTO'S ). *** PLEASE NOTE: I HAVE NOT CLEANED OR WAXED THEM. This same subject was used by Droste Chocolate for their cocoa tins circa 1900 making her illustration a nurse.. These bookends are the depiction of the chocolate serving maid carrying a tray with a porcelain chocolate mug and a glass of water. Wonderful, old, original set made of cast iron..
