Publisher: Eugene Swiney, Corke (Cork)1766, pirated edition, published in the same year as the 1st edition. Two volumes bound as one. Bound in modern leather in period style with blind stamped decorations on both boards and the spine, and titles in gilt on leather spine labels. Very good condition with occasional marks and tissue repairs to pages here and there, professionally done. About one third of the final leaf has been lost, now repaired, causing loss to the text on page 187. A facsimile page has been bound in, in front of the original page.
A very nicely restored early edition of this famous, popular and much republished book, Sold by Samuel Johnson for £60 to Francis Newbery, rescuing Goldsmith from penury and the wrath of his landlady.
16.5cm tall (6.5 inches), Volume One title page, 2pp advertisement, 188 pages, Volume 2 title page, 188 pages, complete.
