Swinburne here presents a study of Charlotte Brontë, and also of her sister Emily, filled with admiration, comparing her favourably with Cervantes and Dickens and declaring her greater than Thackeray and Sterne among others.

The book is in very good condition with a slightly darkened spine, light bumping to the board corners and one owner name in pencil on the front pastedown endpaper, dated Oct. 1877.  Otherwise clean and bright and tightly bound.

Octavo, 19.6cm, 7.75 inches, tall, 97 pages, plus 32 page publisher’s catalogue.
