a blacksmith 's piece of art, a wonderful, antique, 16th century wax seal stamp,

made during the Renaissance period, between 1500-1600

of wrought / forged iron, the iron stamp handle is formed as the flower of

the Crocus Sativus, protecting the Saffron inside

the stamp has a seal / matrix with a heraldic coat of arms showing:

on the shield a tree in full leaf, possibly eradicated / showing the roots,

as supporters two lions, one lion coming from behind the shield, perhaps in trian aspect, the other lion rampant reguardant with tongue and tail,

as crest a barred helmet and a demi lion rampant with tongue, tail and sword.

We have not been able to find a coat of arms with a tree in combination with these supporters and a crest like this,

after concentrating us on the combination of a tree and saffron, we came across

the Swiss village Linn in the kanton of Aargau in the Schrattentahl: it has a single tree as it's coat of arms.

That is the famous ancient Lime tree of Linn, also called the Linner Linde or d'Lende vo Lenn.

The region of Aargau is known for saffron culture / production / harvest from the Crocus Sativus flower.

Saffron was used as medicin during the pandemic plague of the Black Death, during the 14th up into the 19th century.

A saga of the Linn Tree is about the victims died of that plague, who have been burried in a massgrave outside the village and the tree was planted on that spot.

History of the name / Geschichte Ortschaftsname: Linne, 1306 im Habsburger Urbar - 1307 Lind -  1672 Linden, Herrschaft Schenberg 1377 - Kirchgemeinde Elfingen / Evingen > Bozberg 1649
