Vintage Ethnic Nepal Tibetan Foo Dog Massive Reversible Pendant Necklace
Circa 1930s featuring a foo dog figural on one side and four figural warrior men on the other side.
The pendant is a heart and is embellished with bits of faux glass coral, turquoise and lapis lazuli, among other bits. The pendant is fully embellished with decorative filigree curls.
At the top are two very large bales that attach to a link chain that terminates with a hook

Foo Dog, Lion Dog & Celestial Dog
Foo Dog, Lion Dog & Celestial Dog all names given to the creatures that guarded the Buddhist temples of the Far East for more than 2,000 yrs. Also called Lion of Buddha, seen as the protector of Buddhist Dharma. The Foo Dog appears in tattoo designs today. The combination of both lion/dog features with claws out & teeth showing, stalking imaginary demons. Regal beasts became guardians at the gates of emperors. They stood guard at tombs & government buildings to frighten away evil spirits.
