Product Description
Upgrade your uPVC door with the Yale Superior euro cylinder — 1* Kitemarked anti-snap, anti-bump, anti-pick and anti-drill protection in one precision-engineered lock.
The Yale Superior Euro Profile Cylinder Lock is the answer for homeowners worried about lock snapping, bumping or picking attacks on their uPVC door. Lock snapping accounts for approximately 27% of all burglaries — nearly 1 in 3 forced entries — and can be completed in as little as 30 seconds with basic tools like pliers or a screwdriver. The Yale Superior is engineered specifically to defeat this attack, along with every other common method of forced entry. Designed to replace any standard euro profile cylinder fitted to uPVC, timber and aluminium doors, it's a direct, cost-effective security upgrade — no full lock replacement required.
Manufactured to the latest British Standards, the Yale Superior carries BS Kitemark KM559658, Secured by Design approved TS007:2014 1 Star rating, and meets BS EN1303:2015 — Grade 2 attack pass, the highest category. It's also corrosion tested to BS EN 1303:2015 (96 hours Neutral Salt Spray Test) and meets BS3621 — the British Standard most UK home insurers reference for door locks.
Please measure your existing cylinder carefully before ordering. Cylinder size is determined by the thickness of your door and handle combination — one size does not fit all. Your new cylinder should protrude between 2mm and 5mm from the handle backplates. If you're unsure which size you need, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.
Pro Tip: To keep your Yale Superior working smoothly for years, lubricate it regularly with a PTFE-based lubricant — never WD-40 or general-purpose oil, which attract dirt and gum up the precision pin mechanism. Apply a small amount of PTFE to the key, insert it into the cylinder, and rotate a couple of times in line with the normal locking action. A 30-second job once or twice a year is all it takes to prevent stiff operation and premature wear.
How do I tell if my current lock is anti-snap already?
Look at your cylinder from the outside of the door. Genuine anti-snap cylinders carry a Kitemark stamp and a star rating (1, 2 or 3 stars) on the visible face or faceplate. If you can't see any markings — or if you can see a smooth brass or chrome cylinder protruding more than 5mm from the handle with no certification stamps — your lock is almost certainly a standard cylinder and vulnerable to snapping. The keyway shape is another clue: standard cylinders use a vertical keyway, while the Yale Superior uses a compact horizontal keyway for the laser-cut dimple key.
Will this Yale Superior cylinder fit my uPVC door?
The Yale Superior is designed to replace any standard euro profile cylinder, which is the cylinder type fitted to virtually all uPVC doors, as well as many composite, timber and aluminium doors. You'll need to confirm the exact size by measuring your existing cylinder — total length and the A/B offset either side of the central fixing screw. As long as your door uses a euro profile cylinder, the Yale Superior is a direct replacement.
How do I fit a new euro cylinder in my door?
Open the door and unscrew the single fixing screw on the lock faceplate (the metal strip running the length of the door edge), which sits in line with the bottom of the cylinder. Insert the key, turn it slightly until the cam aligns with the cylinder body, and slide the old cylinder out. Slot the new Yale Superior in, replace the fixing screw, and test the lock with the door open before closing. Most homeowners complete the swap in under ten minutes with just a screwdriver.
How far should the cylinder protrude from the door handle?
Your new cylinder should ideally protrude between 2mm and 5mm from the handle backplates. Anything more than 5mm increases the leverage available for a snap attack and undermines the lock's security. The simplest approach is to replace like-for-like with the same size cylinder you removed, unless the original was protruding excessively.
Is this lock approved for home insurance purposes?
The Yale Superior carries the TS007:2014 1 Star Kitemark, BS EN1303:2015 Grade 2 attack pass certification, and meets BS3621 — the British Standard most UK home insurers reference for door locks. To achieve the maximum 3 Star security rating, this cylinder is designed to be used alongside 2 Star security door hardware meeting TS007.
What does anti-snap on both sides actually mean?
Standard offset cylinders only have an anti-snap break point on the external side. The Yale Superior has anti-snap protection built into both ends, meaning a 45/50 cylinder is functionally the same as a 50/45 — there's no "wrong way round" when fitting, and your door is protected against snap attacks from either side.
Yale has been protecting British homes for over 180 years, and the Superior Series represents their latest answer to the evolving methods used by intruders. With Secured by Design approval, BS Kitemark certification, and resistance to every common attack method engineered into a single precision-built cylinder, this is one of the most cost-effective security upgrades you can make to your home. Whether you're replacing a worn cylinder, recovering after a break-in, or simply refusing to wait for one to happen, the Yale Superior delivers peace of mind that lasts.
